Nikki Forbes founded Popville in May 2024 after spending nearly four years working in the Nashville music industry as a pop artist, songwriter, and producer— and realizing how hard it was to find a community that truly celebrated pop music instead of just tolerating it.

After years of searching for “her people” and having countless conversations with friends who felt the same — lost, under-resourced, or unsure where to find real opportunities — Nikki noticed a pattern. So many “music communities” promised connection, but most ended up being short-lived, overly cliquey, or hidden behind high paywalls that made them inaccessible to the very people who needed them most.

So she decided to build something different.

Popville was born as a creative community for everyone in and around pop — not just artists and songwriters, but producers, engineers, visual artists, dancers, actors, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and anyone chasing creative dreams beyond country music.

 

We love and respect our country music friends, but the truth is, they already have a strong framework built for them here in Nashville. There are so many other talented creatives who are just as passionate and hardworking — yet often underserved, overlooked, or unsure where they fit.

Since launching, Popville has grown into a vibrant hub for connection, collaboration, and creativity through live events, education, and shared resources. Nikki’s goal moving forward is to continue expanding Popville into a nationwide network that empowers pop and genre-diverse creatives — helping reshape what “Music City” can mean for everyone.
